Nagu Foundation is a non profit organization, shaped to reality by a small team of young and caring residents of Bengaluru, India. With a noble vision of helping the needy, the journey of giving back to the society started a few years ago and a few resolutions later. Since it's inception, the organization has branched to great lengths, constantly looking after those who are differently abled, assisting them in the most sensitive times and invoking a sense of self dependence in them. With almighty's grace, support of friends and colleagues, we have been taking baby steps to make a difference in the lives of the needy. Equipped with such rich resources of kindness and helping hands, we aim to bring NAGU across as many faces as possible :)

Story of Nagu Foundation

Nagu started with volunteering by teaching students at schools for visually impaired. It is during this time that we realised that the students face a lot of challenges on day to day basis. On one of our visits to a school for children with intellectual disability, we learned from the care takers about the difficulties the girls face during their menstrual cycles and the challenges faces by the caretakers in assisting the girls. Our aim was to make menstrual cycles easier for these women. The idea of customised sanitary pads seemed feasible to achieve by integrating disposable inner wears with the sanitary pads. We distributed these customized pads to the school. The results were quite positive. The efforts of the caretakers were reduced considerably as some girls were able to use these pads with minimal care taker intervention.

The customised sanitary pads greatly helped the differently abled girls and their care takers. However, the one thought that bothered us was the plastic waste the was getting accumulated due to these sanitary pads. We are in the process of finding new ways to reduce this waste while still being able to provide for these women.

With the thought of waste management, we came up with the idea of school benches made of non biodegradable waste. There are several schools in rural India that lack basic infrastructure. We identified a few schools in and around Bengaluru and donated benches made of non biodegradable waste.

Nagu Foundation has also helped construct toilets for girl students at a government school in Bellary District of Karnataka.

We also conduct awareness sessions at regular schools and special schools.

Menstrual health:

We believe that sanitary health care should reach young women who are differently abled. We came up with custom made sanitary pads for differently abled women. These pads can be used with ease and helps in reducing the efforts a care taker has to put in during menstrual cycles of these women. We have been distributing these sanitary pads to more than 100 women in various parts of Karnataka on monthly basis.

Recycling and reusing waste:

To reduce the burden on earth due to accumulation of non biodegradable waste, Nagu Foundation is providing benches made of non biodegradable waste to rural schools of Karnataka.
